I’ll never forget the late night call from my niece, Brittany, eleven (11) years ago (Feb. 13, 2013) telling me he was gone. He died in an ATV accident after hitting a tree head on. It seemed so unbelievable, he was so young (16 yrs old) and had so much ahead of him. Definitely one that was taken way too soon.
Years later, in honor of his memory, I named our publishing company after him, Flyhigh Media, LLC.
The story behind the name:
Two months prior to his death, Steven reached his dream of achieving the Eagle Scout Merit award, the highest rank attainable by Boy Scouts of America (BSA). A huge accomplishment and just the start of the person he was becoming.
After his death his friends and family started posting the phrase “FlyHigh Steven” on social media, they wrote it on truck windows, t-shirts, in the sand and just about anywhere they could.
For us, the phrase symbolized achievement and making one’s dreams come true, just like Steven was doing, and what we want for the authors that we will one day represent.
I talk with him often and know that he is watching over all those that he loved. He especially enjoys watching the family grow as each new nephew, niece and cousin is born into the family. He is still here, just in a different way.
I love you sweet, Steven, with all my heart. – Love, Aunt Sherry
